Its simple: people in diasporas tend to be more conservative with culture compared to those remaining in the homeland. For example, diaspora Hindus will hardly touch beef yet Hindus in India are known to eat meat. That explains why diaspora Kenyans will go to a great deal of trouble to teach their children cultural attributes that may no longer be relevant back home. Even within Kenya, town dwellers are more culturally concious compared to their rural counterparts. I have found it interesting to note that, in rural areas, the people who have a problem with "outsiders" settling in their areas tend to be the urban and middle class elites worried about their tribe dying out!

How sad for Kenyans in Kenya. I have lived in the west for 25+ years and still speak, write and read Kikuyu. So many in Kenya are not able to express themselves in the simplest mother tongue words!
