It is with deep profound sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the elevation to Glory of Mr. Solomon K. Murugu which occurred on Wednesday, February 15th atRestonHospitalinReston,Virginiafollowing an illness that was bravely borne.

 

He was the loving husband to Emily Murugu (VA,USA) and father of Kathleen Murugu (VA,USA), Jane-Anne “Sweetie” Murugu (MD,USA), June-Carolyne Sasu (MD,USA), Yvonne-Fleur Murugu (VA,USA), Andrew Murugu (Meru,Kenya), Fredah Mputhia (Nairobi,Kenya) Juliette Murugu (Nairobi,Kenya) and Edith Murugu (Nairobi,Kenya) and proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren.

 

He was the beloved uncle to Raphael Rutere (NJ, USA), Geoffrey Mworia (NJ, USA), Alice Rutere (NJ, USA) and John Rutere (CT, USA), Frank Murungi (MA, US), Liza Kibe (MA, US), Betty Mworia (Canada), Jackson Thiuru (KS, USA) and several others across the world.

 

Prayers and meeting of friends and family will be held at Kathleen Murugu’s House located at12805 Old Club Lane,Reston,Virginia20191starting Sunday February 19th at3pmand daily at7pmthereafter.

 

Donations will be greatly appreciated to help the family defray the cost of sending his body to his final resting place inKenya.

 

The memorial service will be at McGuire Funeral Home (7400 Georgia Avenue,WashingtonD.C.,20012) onSaturday February 25th, 2012at11amand will be preceded by the viewing at10am.

Do you have any rights as an immigrant?

There will be a free “Immigrants: know your rights” presentation at SMU’s Student Center this coming Saturday, February 18th from 2:00pm. This is a free event, which I think will be helpful and educational to many people. The event will be presented by an SMU alumnus Jiroko Lopez, an expert in immigration law, followed by a Q&A session.

“It’s 5:30am. You are multi-tasking to beat the time as you prepare to go to work. There’s a knock at the door. Who could that be? It’s very unusual. You check through the peep hole and three men are standing out there- clearly they are not lost. You open the door. It’s the immigration. What do you…”

Among other agenda items, the leadership will lay out key goals and pursuits of 2012, introduce new leadership (Chairman representing Tanzania) in line with the East Africa Community rotational leadership model, and promote camaraderie and networking among the membership.

The acclaimed African Children’s Choir has been performing community concerts across North America and around the world for 25 years, raising awareness of the plight of Africa’s most vulnerable, but also showing the beauty, dignity and potential of each African child.

VICTORY CHAPEL DALLAS

SOUNDING THE TRUMPET OF FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE

In one of his writings Paul the apostle raised rhetoric. “If the trumpet be unclear, how can anyone prepare for battle?” Back then communication was archaic compared to our digital system, frequency modulation, global positioning system and all kinds of signal systems out there. In those days they used horns and trumpets. There was a particular note for worship gathering, a different one for town hall meetings, another for celebration and another for emergency for example war.

The fiddler had to know which note to hit in order to send a particular message. He/she had to be certain otherwise a whole nation is sent into confusion. Imagine sounding a festive note in time of war or to mistake a town hall meeting for a call to worship. That’s Paul’s question. If the trumpet or horn sends mixed messages how can anyone be prepared?

We are a new church in town. We believe God has called us to the city of Dallas according to his eternal purpose that we might be an additional outreach center. We believe that God always had a specific assignment for Victory Chapel way before any one of us got here. We also believe to have been called to this city not just to sound a trumpet but to hit a specific note. Our vision is to be Christ’s community of Faith, Hope and Love. In other words, God has called us by faith to be stewards of hope as we serve one another in love. Our message is Faith, our ministry is of Hope and our service is in Love.

As we reach out to the Diaspora community, our 3-part message is clear:

  1. One, God who is love is calling us unto himself. Our response to him is by faith. Without such faith it is impossible to please this God. He calls this response of faith the victory that overcomes.
  2. Our message is one of hope.  There is hope for each one of us. Hope in this life and beyond! You can be better; you can live better, you can do better! There is a better life than you think you know!
  3. Our message is of Love and in love. Whether rich or poor, single or married, educated and illiterate, in Africa or the US, everyone understands the language of love. We communicate this love of God in how we treat and handle each other.
  4. We invite you to experience  it this Sunday at Victory Chapel Dallas. Everyone is welcome.  Come as you are.  Victory Chapel is currently meeting at Double Tree Hotel in Richardson Tx from 11am to 12.30 pm. Our address is: 1981 North Central  Express way, Richardson Tx 75080.

Kenya Airways Statement on Schedule Disruption on 13th January 2012

Kenya Airways would like to inform its passengers, customers, investors and the public that Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Runway 06/24 will be temporarily closed on Friday 13th January from 0100hrs upto 0100hrs on 14th January, for planned maintenance on the threshold lights and cabling works.

As a result of the temporary closure, Kenya Airways regrets to announce that the following flights scheduled for 13th January, have been rescheduled to operate as below.

• KQ102 to London will be delayed by 1hr15mins, departing Nairobi at 0100hrs/14th January and expected to arrive in London at 0700hrs/14th January local time London.

• KQ112 to Paris is delayed by 1hr35mins and rescheduled to depart Nairobi at 0115hrs/14th January arriving Paris at 0755hrs/14th January local time Paris.

• KQ116 to Amsterdam is scheduled to depart on time 0820hrs/13th January, however it will fly via Cairo for a fuel refill as the B777 operating the flight cannot be fueled fully in Nairobi due to the temporary shorter runway at JKIA; as a result of the stopover in Cairo, the expected time of arrival in Amsterdam 1640hr local time Amsterdam.

• KQ860 to Bangkok and Hong Kong will be delayed by 1hr50mins, departing Nairobi at 0110hrs/14th January arriving Bangkok at 1450hrs local time Bangkok and Hong Kong at 1925hrs.

Kenya Airways station offices in London, Paris, Bangkok and Hong Kong have arranged for special handling of passengers affected by the disruptions.

We may also experience resultant delays as a result this disruption and appeal to our affected passengers for understanding and patience during this period.

All passengers booked to travel on these routes on Friday 13th January are asked to re-confirm their bookings with the airline before the date of travel and before reporting to the airport.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Gladys Wacheke Njuguna’s  ‘Kenya Driving License’ together with her other Special Personal Documents were sent from California to Kenyan Embassy New York.

She is/was a resident of Boston Area and either visited or relocated recently to California.  She needs to contact Kenyan Embassy New York to get her documents. Please pass this message to the above mentioned person if you know her or pass it out via Kenyan Community and Friends.
